These paintings are the exhale.

After making detailed and controlled figurative work, I often need to make something loose, chaotic, and layered. I use bolder colors, intuitive marks, and less restraint. Most of these pieces still carry a figure somewhere — a body, an organ, or a reference to something interior. The tight grip is loosened. The image gets to fall apart a little.

The themes don't change. What changes is the amount of control I'm willing to let go of.
